Artist's Statement

The central idea of my concentration is artistic attire. The individual shoes can be perceived as their own entity, each representing a different theme, while coming back together, representing the common topic of shoes. I was first inspired by Blair Ondrala’s costumes. I expanded and developed my idea by progressing on how much I could alter the shoe, while retaining the framework of the attire.

The exploration of my idea grew from my transition of artistically addressing shoes to completely redesigning the dexterity of a shoe. My use of exciting materials and colors brings a different feel into each shoe, which can all relate to the artistic attire theme. Photo 1 represents the beginning of my idea, slightly altering a shoe. The ice cream and sprinkles in photo 2 represent the start of my complete altercation of the shoes. Photos 3 and 4 highlight my reimagining of a normal high heel, with the syringe heel in photo 4 highlighting my creative thinking. Photos 5 and 6 show the beginning of my heavy altercation of the shoes, incorporating new materials. Photos 7 and 8 represent a strong use of design and focus on primary colors. The teeth in photos 8 and 9 redesign the shoe, altering the sole. Photos 11 and 12 show depth of design, completely altering the shoe, while retaining their purpose.
